Summary:
Do not undergo the experience I had at Mandarin Oriental Kuala Lumpur
Mandarin Oriental has been the worse hotel experience I have ever encountered.
This is a comparison to 3-Star, 4 Star and of course 5 Star hotels.
The hotel does not deserve this name nor the 5-Star rating it gives itself.
Service:
The quality of top and lower management lack in sophistication, professionalism, and customer orientation.
The rooms are old, partially rundown and the service, as is untrained with an unprofessional behaviour. Hangs-up on phone calls when after multiple tries to get the room service or insufficient knowledge and wrong answers about trivial questions such as where to find the room service menu, incorrect information about other hotel services such as breakfast times, 40mins waits for a cocktail at the pool bar and many many more example have left a very dark picture of the nature of the service of Mandarin Oriental to me.
This also includes the empty promises and unavailability of top management after I have been promised to be contacted after this, I quote the Top manager "before unseen incidents of lack of service".
This has been topped by a personal meeting that failed due to "unavailability of the manager" even though I have seen him in the lobby.
No call back nor any reaction.
Rooms & Facility:
The rooms are old, partially rundown. No renovation since the 70/80s?
Location:
Next to Petronas towers, however so close by that there is no view to it. Any other hotel has a better view.
Breakfast:
The breakfast buffet is not meeting any standards of a 5 star hotel, such as Shangri-La or an even lower star hotel Hyatt or Hilton. Missing spoons, empty buffet places, ignorant service staff, lack of variety and taste.
Price & Quality:
I strongly reckon it is inappropriate to call yourself a 5 star hotel, charging 5 star prices and then offering a service that I personally have never experienced in a 3 star hotel before.
To summarize and express the sincere frustration, I will never ever stay at Mandarin Oriental or any other brands related to this company again.
